Bedtime Routines to Enhance Sleep Quality
We've probably all heard or read about the benefits of waking up at 5 a.m., and you might have even found some of that advice right here on this blog. However, making it a daily routine isn't always a piece of cake. Are you having a tough time getting up at 5 a.m.? You understand that it can be good for productivity, but sometimes it's a real challenge. Plus, even if you do manage to rise early, you end up feeling tired and drained throughout the day. Then, when bedtime rolls around, you suddenly become wide awake and spend hours scrolling through your phone instead of getting some much-needed sleep.
Why is it important to have a bedtime routine?
The way you end your night plays a crucial role in how you'll feel the next day. Taking the time to wind down and ease into sleep is vital because it increases the chances of having a good night's rest. Research indicates that getting 7-9 hours of sleep is essential, but it's not just about the quantity. The quality of your sleep is equally important for your overall well-being. If you find yourself feeling tired and exhausted throughout the day, it's worth reflecting on your sleep pattern. Consider not only the hours you sleep but also the overall quality of your sleep.
Habit matters! When it comes having a quality sleep, having the same sequence of steps can prepare you for bedtime. When you repeat the same habit your body gets and indication to get ready to sleep. Bedtime routine or any self-care rituals differ from person to person, there is no one size fits all solution here. Depending upon your lifestyle and interests tailor bedtime routine to suit your needs and preferences.
Still, if you are confused, I have complied a few tips and ideas which have worked for me. Say goodbye to all electronics 2 hours before your bed time, our body is naturally designed in such a way that when the sun rises, it produces cortisol, a hormone that makes you feel awake and alert. Dimming the lights or lighting a candle before bedtime can be a simple yet effective way to enhance your sleep routine. It aligns with your body's natural circadian rhythm by signalling the onset of nighttime, promoting the production of melatonin, the sleep-inducing hormone.
